GEOSYN at the 15th IEA Heat Pump Conference in Vienna
GEOSYN was participated in the 15th IEA Heat Pump Conference, held in Vienna from 26 to 29 May 2026, one of the leading international events for researchers, industry representatives, policymakers and innovators working on sustainable heating and cooling solutions. Under the conference motto “Decarbonisation through innovation,” the event offered an important platform to exchange knowledge and showcase technologies that can accelerate the energy transition.

During the conference, GEOSYN was presented by Paride Gullo from SDU through a technical contribution on the dynamic performance evaluation of an R718 high-temperature heat pump developed within the project. The presentation highlighted the project’s progress towards a high-temperature geothermal heat pump solution for industrial applications, with a focus on operational flexibility, performance under dynamic conditions, and the replacement of conventional natural gas boilers. The GEOSYN concept targets steam generation for energy-intensive industry, with results showing that the technological constraints are met and that the system can achieve an average COP of 3.5, reduce operating costs by 25% to 64%, and cut greenhouse gas emissions by up to 96% compared to a natural gas boiler in the analysed scenarios.

The conference presentation also underlined the technical maturity of the solution, including a demonstration target of TRL 5, suction superheating degree of 20 K, discharge temperatures below 270 °C, and a COP above 3. These results confirm the potential of GEOSYN to support industrial decarbonisation through innovative geothermal heating and cooling technologies. Participation in Vienna was also an opportunity to engage with the wider heat pump community and to share GEOSYN’s contribution to the development of efficient, low-carbon solutions for industry.
