Creating the Experimental Framework
Designing on paper is just the beginning. The real test for innovative technologies such as those developed in the GEOSYN project takes place in the laboratory, where ideas are transformed into working prototypes.
Under the guidance of the SDU and with technical support from RIVACOLD, GEOSYN team is designing a test facility that will allow to evaluate the performance of the GEOSYN subsystems under controlled conditions. This crucial phase, which will last until October 2026, is the bridge between theory and practice.
But how does the process work? It is defined the detailed technical specification of the system, taking into account each component, including heat exchangers, compressors, valves and control sensors. This meticulous work is essential to ensure that the prototype accurately reflects the conceptual design.
Precise Measurements in a Controlled Environment
The experimental phase involves rigorous testing, during which temperatures, pressures and flow rates around the subsystems will be measured to assess their performance in different operating conditions. Of particular interest it will be observed:
- The behaviour of the heat pump at high temperatures, with condenser temperatures between 160 and 250°C.
- The variation of the coefficient of performance (COP) at different temperature ranges – The optimal configuration of the ejector in the refrigeration cycle.
- The result will be real data that will allow us to refine the theoretical models, optimise components and prepare for full-scale tests.
Beyond the individual components
April 2026 will therefore mark a milestone: the delivery of detailed technical drawings of the entire GEOSYN system, ready to be implemented in a real environment.
